Nursery

During 2025-26, news and homework will be shared here each week.

Our Class Padlet

Padlet is a secure online board where our class can post ideas, photos, and learning in one easy place. By scanning the QR code, you will be able to view and comment on stories and resources that we have enjoyed sharing together.

We have made our own x-ray pictures printing our hands or feet then adding cotton buds for the bones. We learnt that there are 27 bones in the hand and 26 in the feet!

We have explored what things a doctor might need to carry in their bags and talked about why they would need different items.

We have enjoyed playing in our role-play doctors surgery, taking on different roles, including being a receptionist booking in patients and doctors. We learnt all about how a stethoscope works and listening to the heart bearing and the air going into and out of our lungs from Sam.

We had a very special visitor called Sam who came in to talk to us about her job as a nurse. We listened very carefully and thought about some questions to ask her.

People Who Help Us

This half-term we will be learning about different people who help us in and around school and in the community we live.  We will be welcoming different visitors into class to talk to the children about their jobs and this will be an excellent opportunity for the children to ask any questions they may have. Please talk to your children about different people who help us and remind them of times when they have been to the doctors or dentist or had to visit or stay in hospital!

Something very exciting is happening in Early Years this week...

Well what an exciting week to return to Nursery! We welcome Miss Lunn and Mrs Croft to our Early Years family and we are getting some new outdoor equipment! We have been really excited watching the workmen working outside but we did NOT like the very noisy drill!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

This week we have been reading Mrs Lisle's favourite story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. We have been learning about the life cycle of the butterfly and the different stages it goes through - from an egg, to a caterpillar before turning into a butterfly! We have used our fine motor skills to make our very own caterpillars using pom poms and we have created butterfly pictures using paint and folding paper to create symmetrical wing patterns!

In maths we continued to explore our learning of taller and shorter. Mrs Lisle showed us a metre ruler and we  went around the classroom investigating, finding things that were taller than and shorter than one metre.

We have continued to develop our ball skills in PE this week with Mr Hitchings, controlling the ball with our feet and stopping the ball. Some superstar footballers in the making with some amazing skills on show!

Science Week!

This week we have been taking part in a range of scientific experiments exploring colours and height.  We were trying to find out if the oldest person in our class was the tallest as that is how scientists determine the age of sharks by measuring them! We learnt that the Whale shark is the largest shark species and the smallest is called a Dwarf Lantern shark.

World Book Day 2026!

We have had lots of fun thinking about and getting dressed up as inspirational people to us for World book day this year. We have used the Little People, Big Dreams series of books to learn about real people who have achieved some amazing things, in a very fun and creative way which the children have thoroughly enjoyed! We have created artwork in the style of Frida Kahlo and also had a Phonics session taught by a pilot!

In PE with Mr Hitchings we have been exploring ball skills of bouncing and catching and throwing and catching with a large, soft ball.

Our Nursery Rhyme of the  week has been 'Baa Baa Black Sheep'. Can your child sing along when prompted, using some simple signs?

Our sounds for this week have been 'c' for cat and cup and 'k' for kite and ketchup. Can your child remember these sounds and tell you something that begins with that sound?

In Maths, we have been looking at small quantities and 'subitising'. Check out this super simple song that the children have been learning from Jack Hartmann to help us. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSlA-u_ABmU

In Phonics we have been learning the sounds 'm' for mouse and 'd' for duck. We have also begun hearing sounds in short CVC words when blended for us!

We have LOVED getting messy and exploring gloop this week. We used tools including whisks and spoons but nothing was as satisfying as getting our hands and fingers in to make marks and explore the texture!

We have made our own polar bear crafts using very soft cotton wool and also printing using a pom pom attached to a peg!

Continuing on with our Winter theme, this week we are thinking about animals that like and live in cold and wintry conditions. We could think of lots of different ones and have chosen to learn about...Polar Bears.

This week in Phonics we have learnt the new sounds 'i' for iguana and 'n' for net. Ask your child if they can tell you anything else that begins with that sound. Do they know the sound that their name begins with and what it looks like?

In Maths we have been subitising numbers up to 3 and recognising those small amounts and Numicon shapes really quickly! We have also been learning a shape song - check out the link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEbRDtCAFdU&list=RDOEbRDtCAFdU&start_radio=1

We have been developing our fine motor skills and control using a range of tools, including cotton buds and pipettes with very watery paint!

This week we have continued our exploration of winter and have been exploring...ice!

Happy New Year to our Nursery children and families. We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas holiday.

Welcome to our Nursery Class Page!

Our topic for this half-term is...Winter!

The weather for our return to school could not have been more appropriate for the children to explore and get a better understanding of the season. This is what we have been up to in Nursery this week...

We have explored sledging in the snow in a makeshift sledge, wrapping up warmly in appropriate clothing and making our own snowflake pictures using salt and glue!

In phonics we have been recapping sounds that we had learnt before Christmas - s,a,t and p. Ask your child if they can tell you anything that begins with those sounds or play an eye-spy game!

In Maths we have been singing the song '5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed' from BBC Teach.https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/articles/zm7rf4j The children love singing along!

We have looked at and shared some stories about Winter and Snow. If you have any books at home please share them with your child.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2q4mXrfkyO8 This story by Sue Hendra was a particular favourite of ours this week!
