Welcome to Reception! 

In Reception we: 

• play, explore and learn every day.
• enjoy adventures indoors and outdoors.
• are encouraged to be brave enough to try new things and grow curiosity about the world around us.

• have fun while growing in confidence and independence.

The Three Little Pigs 

In our English sessions over the next few weeks, we will be exploring the story of The Three Little Pigs. This week, we focused on the character of the Big Bad Wolf in our Drawing Club sessions and created some wonderfully imaginative wolf characters! We also made homes for the pigs in our playdough area, using sticks, bricks and straw.

 

Den Building Outdoors! 

This week, Reception have enjoyed spending time in our hammock and creating enclosed spaces outdoors. They demonstrated fantastic teamwork by taking turns, sharing and working together as they played and explored!

Capacity 

In Maths this week, we learnt about capacity using the words full, empty and half full. We enjoyed using syringes and pipettes outdoors to fill and explore different containers.

         

 

Maths 

          

In Maths this week, Reception have been learning to subitise, which means recognising small amounts without counting each object one by one. We played fun games and looked at different arrangements of objects, helping us to quickly spot how many there were. This is an important early maths skill that supports children's understanding of number and counting.

Super Duper You! 

In Drawing Club this week, Reception have been enjoying the story Super Duper You and talking about the special qualities that make each of us unique. We shared our own ‘super powers’ and used our imaginations to create drawings inspired by our strengths, talents and favourite things.

Our Feelings 

Reception have had a fantastic week exploring feelings and emotions. Inspired by the story The Colour Monster, the children designed their own feelings monsters during Drawing Club. We also began learning about the Zones of Regulation, which will help us to recognise our emotions and develop the language and confidence to talk about how we are feeling throughout the year.

All About Me! 

During the first half of the Autumn Term, the children in Reception will be getting to know one another as they talk about their feelings, favourite things, families (and pets) and where they live.
