During 2025-26, news and homework will be shared here each week.

Homework can be found at the bottom of our page along with a QR code to our class reading Padlet! We will review our Padlet weekly in class so that the children can share their love of reading.

We have had a very busy week! We had our Nativity performance on Wednesday. The children worked so hard and enjoyed performing in front of their parents and carers. Well done Year 1 and 2!

We have also conducted a scientific investigation. We tested different materials to find out which would make the best umbrella. It needed to be strong and waterproof. The children worked so well in their groups and greatly enjoyed testing the different materials.

December is here and Year 1 have been working so hard on their Christmas performance with Year 2. We have been singing songs, learning actions and practising the show from start to finish. We hope lots of parents will be able to come and see the children's hard work next week!

The children have been working so hard on their Maths this week. In our lessons, we have been looking at part whole models and writing down the eight fact families to go with them. This was quite challenging but the whole class tried their best. We also took some time in the computer room to practise our number facts on Numbots. The children loved it and I am sure they will be getting some certificates soon! Their independence is also growing and many of the children can type in their username and password independently, getting themselves logged on to the computer quickly.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! This week in RE, the children have been thinking about the Nativity story and what the shepherds might have thought about meeting Jesus for the first time. The children were fantastic at role playing and had great fun pretending to meet the Baby Jesus.

We have also spent this week rehearsing our Christmas performance with Year 2 and also getting our Christmas window ready.

In Science, we have been looking at different materials. The children worked in their groups to sort the different properties into the correct group. They worked so hard, asking questions when they were unsure of what a word meant. We recognised that wood is hard and strong, whereas glass is weak and breakable. Great teamwork Year 1!

    w/c 10.11.25

The children have worked extremely hard across all subjects this week so today we thought they deserved some Friday fun! We took part in challenge 25 for Children in Need which included exercising for 25 minutes! This afternoon we also created our own Pudsey Bear hats whilst talking about the significant impact of Children in Need.

In history this week, in celebration of Bonfire Night, we explored the story of Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot. We created a timeline of key events and even had time to paint some pretty firework pictures!

We have had a super busy week in Year One this week!

Over the last couple of weeks in RE, we’ve been learning about the parable of The Lost Son. We spent time exploring the meaning of the story, reflecting on the importance of forgiveness and thinking about a time when we forgave someone. This week, the children had a go at acting out the parable themselves and performing in small groups in front of the class.

Then, to finish off our Louis Braille topic, the children used playdough to create Braille. In doing so, the children were able to understand how Braille works through their sense of touch.

Finally, we conducted a science investigation to identify different flavours of jelly. The children predicted the flavours of jelly first through their sight based upon the colour of the jelly. Then, the children were able to use their sense of smell and taste to identify the correct flavours of jelly. Although, it was tricky because the flavours didn't always match the colour of the jelly! Our favourite jelly was the blue one.

In maths this week, we used a hands-on approach to order numbers from smallest to greatest. The children had the opportunity to work independently while also communicating with one another to place themselves in the correct order. This encouraged not only their problem-solving skills but also teamwork!

We also had some extra excitement this week thanks to our school disco!

To continue our history topic on Louis Braille, we took an adventure around the school to search for Braille in everyday places. The children discovered Braille on the classroom doors, cloakrooms, the lift and many others. Afterwards, the children had a go at writing their own names in Braille and even a message to a friend.

On Thursday, we were very excited to take our first trip up to the computer room! In class, we have been learning about the different parts of a computer to help get us ready for using them. The children had the chance to practice their typing skills using TypingClub (TypingClub). They all did a fantastic job and had so much fun!

    w/c 22.09.25

In English, we've been exploring the classic tale of Little Red Riding Hood. The children enjoyed reading the story and we had great fun writing sentences about the big bad wolf! Here we are practising our sentence skills.

    w/c 15.09.25

This week, we’ve been exploring our senses across the curriculum. In music, the children tuned into their sense of hearing to keep a steady beat on the drums, which was quite tricky! Then, in history, we enjoyed using only our touch and smell to identify what object was in the bag. This helped us understand the importance of our senses, which also links to our science topic that we will be exploring later on in the term!

    w/c 08.09.25

The children have been working extremely hard this week across all subjects. This week we introduced our new history topic, Louis Braille, and our science topic, animals including humans.

Here we are having some Friday fun in art!

Welcome to our Year 1 page!

This week the children have settled into Year One extremely well and have been very busy with their learning.

Here we are practising our counting in maths. They did an amazing job!

    Homework

The children are each given a library book to take home that we encourage them to read for pleasure. These books are different to the ones that the children read in reading sessions in school with an adult. These books are to be brought back each week so that they can be changed for a new one. Feel free to add any of these books to our class Padlet so that the children can recommend them to one another!

The children are also given a weekly homework sheet every Friday that we encourage them to complete and hand in on the following Wednesday, along with their library book. This homework links to what we are doing in class and can help to secure their understanding.
