During 2025-26, news and homework will be shared here each week.

    19.12.25

We have had a wonderful end to a very busy term. On Tuesday we had our class party, Wednesday was Polar Express day, Thursday we visited church and had toy day on Friday! We also took part in our Secret Santa class, where we drew a picture for a friend. Thank you for all the lovely Christmas well wishes, cards and gifts. We hope that you all have a magical Christmas, and we can't wait to see you all in the New Year for another fantastic term.

    12.12.25

Thank you all for supporting us in our KS1 performance. We are sure you will agree the children were amazing. In English, we created a story map of The Polar Express and then used it to write the story. In art, we explored a new artist – James Rizzi. We looked at his unique style of art and then had a go at creating our own Rizzi Cities.

    05.12.25

We have had a really busy week of rehearsals and our show is starting to come together nicely. In English, we began our unit on The Polar Express and talked about where we would like to go if a train pulled up outside our house. In maths, we were introduced to column addition and were able to successfully use it to add larger two-digit numbers together. A cheeky elf arrived and has been causing all sorts of chaos. We ended our busy week by decorating biscuits.

    28.11.25

In maths we began adding two-digit and two-digit numbers together. We started by using the Dienes to make the two numbers, then grouped together the tens and ones to find the total. In English, we looked at adding the suffixes -er and -est to change words. We worked hard to finish our Advent-themed Christmas window. We hope you agree it looks fantastic!

    21.11.25

This week has felt very festive! We began making decorations for our Christmas window whilst it was snowing outside. In science, we made our own cereal – apparently it was delicious! In English, we made up our own actions to help us to retell the story 'How to Catch a Star'. Our Christmas Nativity rehearsals are in full swing, and we can't wait for you to watch the Bethlehem Bake-off on the 10th December.

    14.11.25

This week we began exploring a new story in English – How to Catch a Star. We sequenced the story with the help of Sequencing Suki, created a story map and then had a go at innovating the story. In maths, we used objects to help us with subtraction calculations. In science, we brought our cereal box design to life and are really looking forward to making our own cereal to go in them. We decided to glue our poppies onto a silhouette of a soldier and put him in the window for all to see. On Friday, we had a great day celebrating Children in Need. We did some Pudsey crafts and took part in 'Challenge 25' by exercising in the hall for 25 minutes.

    Week 2 homework

    07.11.25

We have been celebrating all things bonfire night this week. In music, we used pompoms and made up our own class song about fireworks. In English, we annotated a text about bonfire night and then had a go at adapting it to create our own version. In maths, we have continued with addition and subtraction and had a go at adding three one-digit numbers. In geography, we looked at the countries that make up the United Kingdom and labelled them on a map. In art, we designed our Christmas window and also made some poppy pieces for remembrance day next week.

    Week 1 homework

    24.10.25

This week in maths we have been working on finding one more and one less. We have also been adding one-digit numbers together by rolling two dice and counting the dots on both.

In English we had a go at innovating the story ‘Funnybones’ and we wrote our own versions of the classic story.

In science, we conducted an experiment to see how far germs can travel. We made a prediction then used a special lotion and a UV light to see how many hands the ‘germs’ travelled. We were shocked to see that they were passed to all 29 of us!

Reading is so important, and the children are making steady progress in their weekly reading sessions. At the end of each week the book that they have read is uploaded onto Collins Hub and it would be great if you could access this at home to consolidate this learning. We sent home the login details again this week but please ask if you need another copy.

We hope you have a lovely half term.

    17.10.25

In maths, we have started our new unit on addition and subtraction. We worked in pairs to explore the number bonds to 10 and looked at fact families with numbers within 20. In order to improve our fine motor skills, needed for writing, we have been doing dough disco to strengthen our fingers. In English, we have been reading the story 'I love books' and have been discussing our favourite part. In Science, we looked at healthy eating and had a go at making an eat well plate.

    Week 7 homework

    10.10.25

On Wednesday, we visited the library. We enjoyed listening to a few stories about animals and then completed a hedgehog craft. It was so lovely to see the children so engaged with reading. This week in maths we have been counting by 2's, 5's and 10s. We have started each maths lesson by watching these videos and counting along.

    03.10.25

Thursday was National Poetry Day! To celebrate, we spent the week planning our very own recipe poems which will be sent to the Young Writers competition in the hope of becoming published authors. We also had a road safety talk this week and sang a song about the Green Cross Code. In music, we have been learning how to play Tony Chestnut on the xylophone with Miss Anderson.

    Week 5 homework

    26.09.25

In English, we were given a picture of an owl and, with the help of the reading dogs, we were able to make a prediction of what our new story could be about. Our inference skills were fantastic, and we decided that the story might be about a baby owl who was all alone. Our new story is The Owl Who Was Afraid of The Dark. In RE, we have been thinking about belonging. This week, we were introduced to the story of the lost sheep and worked in teams to order and retell the story. We ended the week by completing a weekly review, thinking about the times we used our fast brain and our careful brain.

    Week 4 homework

    19.09.25

On Monday, when we came to school, we found a video of what looked like a space rocket crashing into our yard! We then found a book called 'But Martin' and read it together. We had a go at writing a character description of Martin, using adjectives to describe nouns. In maths, we are continuing to consolidate our knowledge of place value, using part, part, whole models and place value charts. In art, we designed a new alien house for Martin which we will paint next week.

    Week 3 homework

    12.09.25

We have continued to explore place value in maths and this week we were introduced to a place value chart. In English, we have begun using the conjunction 'and' to make our sentences longer. We also talked about our favourite book and took photographs to make a display in our reading area. We have been keeping a close eye on the weather this week, looking out for rainbows.

Please find below our class Padlet QR code – this will also be sent out today in a letter. Padlet is an online sharing board where the children in class 2 will share what they have been reading at home. You can register a free account or upload and comment as a guest. Please can you have a go at scanning the QR code and uploading a book by clicking on the + sign in the corner of the page. We have put some books on today for you to share together at home.

    Week 2 homework

    05.09.25

We have had a fantastic first week in Class 2. In maths, we have been exploring numbers to 100 and using Dienes to show place value. In English, we have been working on sentence writing – remembering to use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. We have been reading a lot this week, listening to stories being read and sharing books with friends. In art, we all made a birthday card and on our birthday we will choose a card to take home from the class.
