During 2025-26, news and homework will be shared here each week.

    Our online library

To share our pleasure for reading, I have created an online reading corner for the class to share what they are currently enjoying at home. This space is just for Class 5, who can share or recommend any piece of writing that they have enjoyed or are currently enjoying. Pupils will then be able to like and comment on the posts, and may be inspired to add it to their reading list!

Please follow the QR code to access the page, signing up is optional (but free). If you cannot access via the QR code, please follow the link:

     Happy Reading!

    Autumn 1 - Week 6: 10.10.2025

In Maths, we have been working hard to apply our addition and subtraction, and rounding knowledge to estimate calculations and work out tricky multi-step reasoning problems. We've also been busy keeping our times tables fresh in our minds!

Today we have been transferring our sketching techniques to a new medium, chalk pastels. We explored different ways to create pattern and tone, and discussed the differences between chalk and sketching pencils (whilst also getting messy fingers!).

    Autumn 1 - Week 5: 03.10.2025

For National Poetry Day we were inspired by nature. To get a real sense of what is around us, we had a peaceful morning exploring the pond area and using our senses to come up with some brilliant vocabulary for our poems. From stick acrostics to first person rhymes from the perspective of a woodlouse, we showed great imagination whilst having fun!

    Autumn 1 - Week 4: 16.09.2025

Whilst watching Newsround at the beginning of the week, we saw the launch of the BBC 500 Word competition and got rather excited about it. We took part in the live lesson and have decided that we would like to enter! To get our creative juices flowing, we rolled the dice to create a storyline, had five minutes to draw the scene and fifteen minutes to write whatever came to us.

    Autumn 1 - Week 3: 19.09.2025

We have all shown a great interest in our new Science topic, Space. In small groups, we were given a specific planet to research before presenting our interesting facts and findings to the class - we all did brilliantly! We then took ourselves outside (in a moment of sunshine) and used our posters to order the planets from closest to furthest away from the Sun.

    Autumn 1 - Week 2: 12.09.2025

First full week complete, and what a great one it has been! In English, we have started getting stuck into our new class novel, 'Viking Boy'. We created some brilliant inferences and predictions about what the novel may be about, and enjoyed linking our knowledge of the Vikings in History to our characters. As we are currently focussing on poetry, we wrote some excellent kennings describing the vicious Wolf Men.

To celebrate Roald Dahl Day tomorrow, we had a lovely Friday afternoon watching the BBC adaptation of Revolting Rhymes and can't wait to write our own on Monday. To finish off the week, we all drew our very own Enormous Crocodile in the style of Quentin Blake - they look great!

    Autumn 1 - Week 1: 05.09.2025

Well, what a fantastic start to the year we have had in Class 5! In amongst catching up with friends, sharing our news and getting used to the classroom, we have brought a brilliant attitude to our learning. We have wowed Miss Parker with our knowledge of Roman Numerals, created some brilliant stories and even carried out a Science investigation where we created some excellent scatter graphs to find a relationship between the size of hands and number of sweets they can grab. We've hit the ground running and there is no stopping us!
