During 2026-27, news and homework will be shared here each week.

On Monday, we visited the library, where the children enjoyed listening to a story read by the library staff, making a snake craft, and exploring the books before choosing one to take home. We have sent these books home for you to enjoy reading together. Please return them to school once they have been read so that we can safely return them to the library.
In English, we completed our innovation of The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark. The children impressed us with their very first piece of story writing and should be incredibly proud of their efforts. In maths, we began our new unit on addition and subtraction, developing our understanding of number and calculation strategies.
In science, we investigated what happens to our bodies when we exercise and discussed the changes we noticed, such as an increased heart rate and faster breathing. In RE, we explored the importance of being thankful and created a beautiful thankful tree in our classroom, sharing the people, places, and things we are grateful for.
We have had a fantastic week of learning and are very proud of all the children's hard work!

This week in English, we learnt the Talk for Writing actions for The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark. We practised retelling the story as a whole class, in small groups, and with partners. We are becoming increasingly confident and can now retell much of the story independently. We also began the innovation stage of our writing journey by changing the main character and exploring how this would affect the story.
In maths, we worked on comparing and ordering both objects and numbers. Towards the end of the week, we developed our counting skills by counting confidently in 2s, 5s and 10s.
In history, we created a two-page spread to showcase everything we know about Florence Nightingale and her important contribution to nursing. In Geography, we extended our learning beyond our immediate local area and explored a range of places and landmarks around Newcastle, discussing what makes them significant to our region.

This week has been full of teamwork and collaboration as we worked together to consolidate our learning across a range of subjects. On Monday, we created a vowel poster as a class, sorting words under the correct vowel superhero and discussing the different vowel sounds we know. In history, we worked as a team to label and compare hospitals from the past with hospitals today, spotting similarities and differences and thinking about how healthcare has changed over time. In RE, we explored a variety of objects and discussed who might have created them and why. This helped us make links to the Christian story of Creation and encouraged us to think about creators and their purpose.

This week in Class 2, we celebrated Roald Dahl Day by sharing some of his wonderful stories and creating our own colourful book covers inspired by our favourites. In English, we used adjectives to describe Martin and wrote character descriptions before designing, painting and describing our own alien friends, comparing them to Martin using ambitious vocabulary. In maths, we used part-part-whole models to flexibly partition numbers, helping us develop our number sense. In geography, we explored our school grounds, taking photographs and using them to create a large map of the main areas around the school. In history, we found out lots of information on Florence Nightingale and had a go at sequencing her life events. We have had a fantastic week of learning and creativity!

We completed our first full week back and, although we are feeling a little tired, we have done some fantastic learning! We were amazed when we watched a video from our school cameras showing what looked like a spaceship crashing in our school yard. Miss Watts found a book called But Martin near the crash site, and we have used this as the focus for our English work this week. In Maths, we have used place value charts and part-part-whole models to partition numbers. In Science, we matched animals to their offspring, and in History, we explored a hospital scene and thought of questions we would like to ask about it.

We had a wonderful first week in class 2. The children have settled in really well and are becoming familiar with their new routine. In English, we began looking at the features of a sentence, ensuring that we use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. In maths, we looked at numbers to 20 – putting them in order and using the Numicon to spot patterns. Our new science topic is animals including humans, and we created a cover page for our new books. The children have had the opportunity to read daily and have enjoyed reading books both independently and with their peers.
