During 2025-26, news and homework will be shared here each week.

    Our online library

To share our pleasure for reading, I have created an online reading corner for the class to share what they are currently enjoying at home. This space is just for Class 5, who can share or recommend any piece of writing that they have enjoyed or are currently enjoying. Pupils will then be able to like and comment on the posts, and may be inspired to add it to their reading list!

Please follow the QR code to access the page, signing up is optional (but free). If you cannot access via the QR code, please follow the link:

     Happy Reading!

    Spring 2 - Week 5: 27.03.2026

In RE this term, we have been looking at why Jesus sacrificed himself for our salvation. In this week's lesson, we were given different scenarios based on the reasons Jesus helps Christians every day. One task was to create a tableaux showing how people may feel before and after asking for forgiveness.

In DT, we moved on to looking at trusty trusses, needing to use resilience, trial and error to create different structural designs - look how well they turned out!

    Spring 2 - Week 4: 20.03.2026

Having taken inspiration from our trip last week, we have started looking at the structural features of different bridges, and why they are important for their strength and durability. This week, we were investigating different shaped beams to find which could be suitable for our own bridge design.

    Spring 2 - Week 3: 13.03.2026

We have ended our week on a high, but also with VERY tired legs. To support our learning about Rivers in Geography, and Bridges in DT, we went on a trip to The Baltic to take in the beautiful views and designs of the River Tyne and its many bridges. In the afternoon, we were also surprised by going to a nature-based art workshop, where we created a giant screen print of the beautiful plants and flowers we may find in our local area. Hopefully Miss Parker can find a place to display it in our classroom!

    Spring 2 - Week 2: 06.03.2026

This week, we had a fabulous time celebrating World Book Day! We enjoyed learning about who everyone was inspired by and why. We also looked at the life of Rosa Parks, a woman who stood for what she believed in and changed history. Learning about her life helped us recognise how important it is to stand up for what is right, whilst also helping us relate to the characters' in our class novel, Holes.

    Spring 2 - Week 1: 27.02.2026

Although we are still waiting for a ray of sunshine, that hasn't stopped us having fun outdoors this week. In Science, we have been looking at air resistance and carried out an investigation to see how the size of the parachute affects the amount of air resistance acting on it. With the wind deciding to blow a hooley as we were dropping the parachutes, we had a few taking their own path onto the roof and beyond... but this made for great entertainment and discussion in our conclusions!

    Spring 1 - Week 6: 13.02.2026

What a great term we have had! We've all worked so hard, tried our best, and spread love, joy and kindness around the classroom. Happy holidays!

    Spring 1 - Week 5: 06.02.2026

For National Storytelling week, we had some brilliant sessions learning more about the art of rap, and how important storytelling is in this form of music. We were tasked with creating our very own rap based on superpowers. After spending some time getting to grips with the beat, we helped each other with rhymes and rhythm, and creating some fabulous stories which we performed to each other.

On Friday, we took part in the Times Table Rockstars competition. We warmed up our minds and got cracking in the computer suite - we were watching the leaderboards carefully and can't wait to find out the results!

    Spring 1 - Week 3: 23.01.2026

This week, we have started rehearsing for our class performance. Taking inspiration from a section of the Royal Ballet's 'Light of Passage', we are exploring the UN Convention on The Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and creating a dance that represents us. We have been exploring how movement and expression can tell a story, creating some lovely identity motifs and group tableaux.

    Spring 1 - Week 2: 16.01.2026

We've had a magical week this week. We have started our new novel, Holes, creating a character board to help us remember who, when and where all our characters come from.

On Wednesday, we had a brilliant magical maths day, learning all about magic and how maths can help us read minds! We all got stuck in and performed really well.

Happy New Year! Sliding into the year with style, we had a great time building snowmen, even if we did have chilly fingers by the end of it!

In Science, we had a great discussion about gravitational force, calculating the mass and weight of objects to find the relationship between the two. Gravity pulls at 1N per 100g of mass, which is exactly what we found!

    Autumn 2 - Week 2: 14.11.2025

What an eventful week! In Maths we have been learning about squared and cubed numbers, visualising our maths problems with linking cubes (whilst reminiscing about KS1)! For Remembrance Day, we had a brilliant discussion sparked by the lovely poem, 'For the Fallen', and created some beautiful poppies to respect those that have been affected by war.

On Friday we had our Challenge 25 day for Children in Need. From a 25 minute Joe Wick's workout to quizzes, maps, and stories, we had a brilliant time raising money for this special cause!

    Autumn 2 - Week 1: 07.11.2025

After a spooky half term holiday, we got stuck into writing and entering our 500 words. We worked so hard on our stories and were very proud of the results! We also finished off our Space topic by using some tasty treats to create the different moon phases. I think a few of us had some crumbs around our mouth on the way home...

    Autumn 1 - Week 7: 17.10.2025

Our trip to the Life Science Centre - we had a blast!

    Autumn 1 - Week 6: 10.10.2025

In Maths, we have been working hard to apply our addition and subtraction, and rounding knowledge to estimate calculations and work out tricky multi-step reasoning problems. We've also been busy keeping our times tables fresh in our minds!

Today we have been transferring our sketching techniques to a new medium, chalk pastels. We explored different ways to create pattern and tone, and discussed the differences between chalk and sketching pencils (whilst also getting messy fingers!).

    Autumn 1 - Week 5: 03.10.2025

For National Poetry Day we were inspired by nature. To get a real sense of what is around us, we had a peaceful morning exploring the pond area and using our senses to come up with some brilliant vocabulary for our poems. From stick acrostics to first person rhymes from the perspective of a woodlouse, we showed great imagination whilst having fun!

    Autumn 1 - Week 4: 16.09.2025

Whilst watching Newsround at the beginning of the week, we saw the launch of the BBC 500 Word competition and got rather excited about it. We took part in the live lesson and have decided that we would like to enter! To get our creative juices flowing, we rolled the dice to create a storyline, had five minutes to draw the scene and fifteen minutes to write whatever came to us.

    Autumn 1 - Week 3: 19.09.2025

We have all shown a great interest in our new Science topic, Space. In small groups, we were given a specific planet to research before presenting our interesting facts and findings to the class - we all did brilliantly! We then took ourselves outside (in a moment of sunshine) and used our posters to order the planets from closest to furthest away from the Sun.

    Autumn 1 - Week 2: 12.09.2025

First full week complete, and what a great one it has been! In English, we have started getting stuck into our new class novel, 'Viking Boy'. We created some brilliant inferences and predictions about what the novel may be about, and enjoyed linking our knowledge of the Vikings in History to our characters. As we are currently focussing on poetry, we wrote some excellent kennings describing the vicious Wolf Men.

To celebrate Roald Dahl Day tomorrow, we had a lovely Friday afternoon watching the BBC adaptation of Revolting Rhymes and can't wait to write our own on Monday. To finish off the week, we all drew our very own Enormous Crocodile in the style of Quentin Blake - they look great!

    Autumn 1 - Week 1: 05.09.2025

Well, what a fantastic start to the year we have had in Class 5! In amongst catching up with friends, sharing our news and getting used to the classroom, we have brought a brilliant attitude to our learning. We have wowed Miss Parker with our knowledge of Roman Numerals, created some brilliant stories and even carried out a Science investigation where we created some excellent scatter graphs to find a relationship between the size of hands and number of sweets they can grab. We've hit the ground running and there is no stopping us!
