Welcome to our Class page! You will find out a little bit about the exciting things we get up to each week: working hard and having fun!

    Spring 1 - Week 1: 10.01.2025

Well we've certainly started 2025 in great spirits! It has been brilliant to hear all about everybody's Christmas holidays, and we really enjoyed sharing our news all together in our first Circle Time session.

In Maths we have continued our learning of position and direction, working together to figure out some tricky translations and their following coordinates.

We all worked extremely hard in our Science experiment investigating Water Resistance. Creating four different shapes out of plasticine, we made sure to carry out a fair test to find which shape was the most streamlined. We had some brilliant discussions about why one shape moved through the water quicker than the others, using our knowledge of forces to explain this in detail.

    Autumn 2 - Week 5: 06.12.2024

Although the Christmas chaos has been keeping us very occupied, we have also written some brilliant Diary Entries in English based on Gunnar, the main character of our current class novel Viking Boy. We incorporated our knowledge of adverbials, as well as the 'Show Don't Tell' technique to portray the thoughts and feelings of our character on the day he is captured and sold as a slave.

On Friday, we had the big Christmas reveal and should be extremely proud of our window display and baubles! We learned many new skills such as plaiting and paper sculpting, and worked brilliantly as a team to get the job done!

    Autumn 2 - Week 4: 29.11.2024

This week has really felt like the run-up to Christmas! We have been working extremely hard in our rehearsals, making sure all the props are in the right place and keeping Miss Bell very busy with the glue gun! When in the classroom, we have been crafting away ready for the Christmas window and fayre - we can't wait to show you all of our creations!

    Autumn 2 - Week 3: 22.11.2024

Starting our new topic all about Forces in Science, we carried out an investigation about Gravity. With whatever objects we could find in the classroom, we measured their weight and mass. We had a great discussion about our results, and discovered the relationship between an object's mass and the strength of gravitational pull.

In Maths, we have been looking at square and cube numbers and worked together to understand why a cube number is called a cube number!

    Autumn 2 - Week 2: 15.11.2024

After the exciting news about our Wonderverse poems, we thought we'd give poetry and break and focus on an interesting and significant setting in our class novel, Viking Boy. We have been exploring our senses, and using interesting vocabulary to paint a picture of Kaupang in our reader's mind.

We have had great fun for Children in Need, feeling cosy (and outrageously warm) in our fluffiest pyjamas to help raise money for this important cause. In the afternoon, we looked at the History of the annual event, and created our very own Pudsey's using our sketching and painting techniques.

    Autumn 2 - Week 1: 08.11.2024

After our short break, we've had a very busy start to the term! With Christmas flying around the corner, we have started our choreography for the KS2 Performance. Leaps, slides and hip hop swagger are all flying around the Hall!

On Tuesday, George from Newcastle Castle treated us to an experience day filled with fun re-enactments and food exploration. It was great to be able to widen our knowledge of the Viking period and try out some traditional methods (even if we did make a bit of a mess...)!

    Autumn 1 - Week 7: 18.10.2024

As the deadline for our Wonderverse writing competition comes to a close, we have worked extremely hard to write, edit, and improve our poems, making sure to include many of the poetry techniques we have been developing over the half term. Having free rein of topic and style, we have created a wonderful array of poetry, from acrostics about space, to prehistoric haikus, free verse about nature and even kennings about family members!

In Science, we have continued to learn about the wonders of the Solar System, this week focussing on how the planets, particularly the Earth, orbit the Sun, and the Moon orbits the Earth. We set ourselves into action, and found it a challenging task to rotate and orbit without colliding into one another!

    Autumn 1 - Week 6: 11.10.2024

On Tuesday, we were involved in a fun, interactive live lesson run by Pobble 365 to create some brilliant stories about dinosaurs - using their specially designed costumes, we were taken back to the prehistoric period, filling us with inspiration for our writing, and maybe even our poetry competition!

In Computing, we have been building up our coding skills using various programs - we have particularly enjoyed using a Minecraft game, working through the levels to receive a certificate for our hard work at the end.

On Friday afternoon, we explored how to transfer our newly developed sketching techniques to a new art medium, chalk pastels. We had some great discussions comparing chalk to pencils, and thought of some creative ways we could incorporate them into our Solar System project.

    Autumn 1 - Week 5: 04.10.2024

On Monday, we had a brilliant session learning about crossing roads safely. The co-ordinators praised the whole class, saying how well we followed instructions, whilst showing great care and responsibility when crossing the road. As we were split into two groups, in the classroom we also had a great time getting to know our class pets a little better!

Over the past few weeks, we have been developing our sketching and toning skills using pencil. On Friday afternoon, we put these into action and produced some brilliant still life sketches of fruit - and we certainly enjoyed eating our artwork afterwards!
