We have been learning all about Louis Braille. See if you can spot any braille out in the local community. Can you spot any in the shops? On the Metro? In the library?

This week has been Maths week! The children took part in many different activities including NumBots. The children brought home their log in last week. See if you can log on, create a character and work through some of the challenge questions.
To celebrate the Men's World Cup 2022, each class will be researching a different country. Year 1 will be learning about the traditions and festivals which take place in Brazil. We will start by locating Brazil on a map and talking about which continent it is a part of.
Look at the world map above. Can you spot England? Can you find Brazil? What do you think the weather is like in Brazil?
This half term, the class will be learning about Toys from the past. As part of their learning, we will be going on a school trip to The Discovery Museum on Thursday 26th January. Please find the letter below with more details.
As part of their homework this week, it would be great if the children could talk to a grandparent or adult in the family about the toys they used to play with and how they are the same or different to toys today.
Practise reading each word. See if you can spot them in your reading books.
Can you put them into a sentence? Can you explain why some have a capital letter and others do not?
Months of the Year Song | The Singing Walrus
Since the New Year, we have been talking about the months of the year in class. The children have enjoyed singing along to this song together. Can they remember all 12 months at home?

Spring 2
Homework - Week 1 Please return by Thursday 9th March
In class, we have been practising counting in 10s. We have been using this to help us with our place value and identifying how many tens are in a number and how many ones are in a number. Example, 26 has 2 tens and 6 ones. Have a go at counting in 10s at home. Use the song to help you. Can you do it backwards?
Summer 1
Week 1 Homework - Please return by Thursday 27th April
In class, the children have been practising reading different alien words. These are made up words which contain the sounds the children have been learning. Can you have a practise at home? Give your child a chance to spot the diagraph/ trigraph in each word. For example, the word 'cheast' has the 'ch' and the 'ea' sound. The work 'pobe' has the 'o-e' sound.
Five Oceans Song
The children have had a go at identifying the five oceans during our Geography lessons. Have a listen to the song and see if your child can remember them all. Which is the largest ocean? Which surround the United Kingdom? Which is made up of lots of ice?
Week 6 Homework - Please return by Thursday 8th June
Phonics PractiseWe have been practising reading real and fake words during our Phonics lessons. The children are encouraged to look for different sounds they recognise, before segmenting and blending the word together. We have been playing a game where the children have to read a word and decide if it is real or fake. Have a practise at home. Once on the game, select phase 4 or phase 5 and practise all of the sounds.
