Welcome to the homework page! Homework will be set each Thursday and expected back in the following Thursday.

Maths

This week has been Maths week! The children took part in many different activities including NumBots. The children brought home their log in last week. See if you can log on, create a character and work through some of the challenge questions.

Reading

Here are some questions to ask your child when reading with them. This will help build their confidence and understanding of the text.

Brazil

To celebrate the Men's World Cup 2022, each class will be researching a different country. Year 1 will be learning about the traditions and festivals which take place in Brazil. We will start by locating Brazil on a map and talking about which continent it is a part of.

 

Look at the world map above. Can you spot England? Can you find Brazil? What do you think the weather is like in Brazil?

Maths - 3D Shapes

In Maths, the children have started looking at 3D shapes. We named each one and started to discuss the different properties. Have a practise at home!

  • Can you name each 3D shape?
  • How many faces, edges and vertices does each have?
  • Can you spot any 3D shapes around your home?

History - Toys Past and Present

This half term, the class will be learning about Toys from the past. As part of their learning, we will be going on a school trip to The Discovery Museum on Thursday 26th January. Please find the letter below with more details.

As part of their homework this week, it would be great if the children could talk to a grandparent or adult in the family about the toys they used to play with and how they are the same or different to toys today.

Months of the Year Song | The Singing Walrus

Since the New Year, we have been talking about the months of the year in class. The children have enjoyed singing along to this song together. Can they remember all 12 months at home?

Easter is fast approaching...

In class we have been looking at acrostic poems and shape poems. Can your child have a go at writing their own Easter acrostic or shape poem? 

They can write about the different things they like about Easter, the Easter Bunny or the events of Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

Count in 10s

In class, we have been practising counting in 10s. We have been using this to help us with our place value and identifying how many tens are in a number and how many ones are in a number.
Example, 26 has 2 tens and 6 ones.
Have a go at counting in 10s at home. Use the song to help you. Can you do it backwards?

Alien Words

In class, the children have been practising reading different alien words. These are made up words which contain the sounds the children have been learning. Can you have a practise at home? Give your child a chance to spot the diagraph/ trigraph in each word. For example, the word 'cheast' has the 'ch' and the 'ea' sound. The work 'pobe' has the 'o-e' sound.

Five Oceans Song

The children have had a go at identifying the five oceans during our Geography lessons. Have a listen to the song and see if your child can remember them all.
Which is the largest ocean?
Which surround the United Kingdom?
Which is made up of lots of ice?
