Wednesday 3rd February 2021

Good morning, Nursery Class!

I do hope that you are all enjoying our home learning tasks, this week.

Phonics

For our phonics task today, we are going to be learning a new sound. Take a look at the pictures below and see if you can identify what the new sound is?

Did you guess? Our new sound today is 't'.

Maths

For your maths task today, you will need;

a large roll of paper or some large sheets of paper,

a tape measure,

a pencil,

the heights of different penguins (in real life!)

Roll out the paper and measure the height of one kind of penguin. Have a go at drawing an outline of the penguin - life sized!

(A grown up might need to help you with this!) Then get your adult to either, draw around you onto the paper roll, or measure you using the tape measure up against a wall or a door.  Are you taller than or shorter than the penguin?  Investigate the different heights of other species of penguins, to compare.

Measuring height in school

Our Reception Class friends, wanted to find out the heights of different animals (and superheroes.)  All of the children and teachers have been measured too. We found out that Mrs Lisle and Mrs Heslop are the same height!

Wednesday's Task

Continuing on, with our 'Children's Mental Health Week' activities, please watch the video below all about 'empathy'.  Talk with your child about what the characters were feeling and if they have ever felt sad, themselves.  Talk about what you can do to help someone to feel better, if they are feeling sad.

St Bart's Wellerman Family Project

Hopefully, you should have received an email from school regarding our new Wellerman Project. You can listen to the song on the Youtube link below. We hope this will be a huge success and would love to see as many families taking part as possible! For those of you who would like to join in, you can send your contribution to the class email account or via Tapestry. We can't wait to see your videos!

Maths

For your task today, I want you to look at the penguin pictures below. Talk to your grown ups about where the penguin is, in each picture.  The vocabulary you will be using is; in, beside or next to, under, on, in front of and behind.

Can you get some of your own toys and play a game of 'Hide and Seek' with them, using objects from around your house and in different rooms?  I would love to see some pictures of where you have hidden your toys!

Have fun smiley

Where is the Puppy?

Thursday's Task

Watch the clouds.

Look up at the sky in the morning, afternoon and early evening.

How have they changed?

Can't wait to see you all tomorrow smiley

Friday 5th February 2021

Good Morning Nursery, home learners!

I hope you have had a lovely week. I have really enjoyed seeing your pictures and videos on Tapestry, so thank you for sending them to me!

Fun Friday Phonics!

Today we are having our Nursery Class Zoom session where we will be singing our Penguin rhyme together and learning a new dough disco rhyme - I hope you can all make the session!

Topic

We have learnt that Penguins are birds that do not fly. They have flippers because they spend a long time in the water - aquatic.  Their outer feathers are waterproof.  Do you know what that means?

For today's task, I would like you to experiment at home, with some different objects, to find out which are waterproof and which are not.

Have fun - I can't wait to see what you find out!

Do you know what the word 'precious' means?  At school we have been talking about how we are are all special and unique and we have read the story of 'The Lost Sheep'. Watch the video below and talk about it with your grown ups, today.

Your last task for today is all about stories. Do you have a favourite story?  It has been National Storytelling Week this week, so I want you to find or make a cosy space, in a room of your choice, in your house. Get some toys, blankets, cushions and your favourite book. Can you re-tell the story to your toys, or a grown up and talk about your favourite part of the story. I would love to see some pictures or videos of you doing this!

Have a great day! smiley
