Phonics.

Today in Phonics, we are going to be looking at the new grapheme 'aw'.  The phrase we say for 'aw' is "yawn at dawn".

First, you need to practise writing some of the phase 3 words from below.

Next, watch my video of me introducing the sound 'aw' and modelling segmenting and blending 'aw' words. Then, practise reading 'aw' words from the list below. Finally, have a go at reading real and nonsense words by playing the 'picnic and pluto' game by clicking on the picture below. 

Handwriting.

Today, we are going to practise writing the letters 'o' and 'i' together. The phrase we say is "spoil the boy".

Watch the video below to see how to form the letters correctly, then practise writing your letters in the air and say the phrase. Then, have a go and write your letters on lined paper.

Maths.

Today in Maths, we are going to be continue looking at subtraction. Watch the video below, to see how I demonstrate the new method to find the answer. You then need to complete the two tasks below. In the first task you need to look at the counters, then write the answer in the box. In the second task you will need to roll the dice, then cross off the corresponding amount of counters on the sheet, then write the answer in the box.

Challenge:

Can you write the subtraction number sentences for each number problem? 

English.

Today, we are going to write a postcard home from Stick Man. Watch my video below where I will explain the task in more detail. I have uploaded a template below, or you can make your own postcard with card or paper.

Today, I challenge you to travel a mile. You could walk, run, scooter or cycle. The choice is up to you! 

Phonics.

Today, I would like you to revisit the sound 'aw' that I introduced yesterday.  We say "aw" when we see the two letters a and w together. The phrase we say for this grapheme is "yawn at dawn."

You have four phonics tasks today:

1: Practise your red words using the slides below.

2: Read through the 'aw' words on the green slides below. Talk with your grown up and make sure you know the meaning of each word.

3: Write labels to go with the 'aw' pictures below.

4: Select a word which contains the 'aw' sound and write a sentence containing this word.

Reading.

Last week,  I asked you true and false questions about the story Stick Man. Following on from this task, the children from school have come up with their own true and false questions for you. Click on the video link below to play along.

Maths.

Today, I want you to continue working out subtraction problems, using the crossing out method. Below are the questions for today, I have attached them if you want to print them or you can draw them out on paper.

Our class novel.

At school we have now finished The Enchanted wood by Enid Blyton. The Author wrote another book following on from this text,  it is called The Magic Faraway Tree. This book will now be our new class novel. I have recorded the first chapter below, click on the link below and listen to the new adventures of Joe, Beth, Frannie.

Phonics.

Today in Phonics, we are going to be looking at the new grapheme 'ew'. The phrase we say for 'ew' is "chew the stew."

First, you need to revisit reading the tricky words from Phase 5 using the 'read and roll mat below'. I have added the mats below if you would like to download them.

Next, watch the video of me introducing the sound 'ew'. Then, in the next video I'm modelling segmenting and blending 'ew' words. After that, Practise reading 'ew' words from the list below. Finally, have a go at looking for 'ew' words using the phoneme spotter I have attached below.

Reading.

Please keep hearing your child read their books from school. Use the bookmark below, that your child was previously given. It contains questions to support reading at home. Please use the questions to develop your child's comprehension.

If your child has exhausted the books from school, please read another book to your child. Then use the bookmark as the questions can be used with any texts.

Maths.

We are going to continue with the crossing out method. Today, I want you to try writing your subtraction sentences in a new format.

Look at the images below, then you need find the answer by crossing out the amount you take away, finally write the answer.

I then challenge you to write your sentences with the answer at the beginning. Watch the video below where I model this method.

Can you then make your own subtraction number sentences using the images on the second sheet?

Hello Class 1,

Today in school, the children have had great fun testing materials to make Teddy an umbrella. I would like you to have fun too, so please watch the video below. Find out how to test materials for an umbrella and then have a go yourselves. You can use the sheet we used in school to test and record the materials or you can look for materials of your own to test. I have also added a video for you to watch, about waterproof materials.

Maths Challenge.

English. 

Today, we are going to be looking at the formation of sentences. I have three tasks for you today.

Task 1: 

Look at the picture below and think of a sentence to describe what you can see. You then need to write your sentence on paper. Don't forget you need a capital letter at the beginning, sound your words out, have spaces between each word and end your sentence with a full stop at the end.

Challenge: Can you include a exciting adjective in your sentence?

Task 2: 

Look at the words below, can you unscramble the words to make a sentence? Write the correct sentence out on paper.

Task 3: 

Look at the sentences below. In this task you need to change some letters to a capital (upper case) letter. Each sentence needs one or two changes each. write the correct sentences out on paper.

Geography

Last week in Geography we located The United Kingdom on a world map. I have attached a video below to remind you of the names of the countries that make up The United Kingdom. Today, I would like you to label the map of the UK using the sheet attached below. If you are unable to print, watch the video and then discuss the map below.

Challenge.

Your challenge today is to write your full name. Don't forget to use a capital letter at the beginning of both your first and surname.

Zoom. 

Today we are having another class zoom session at 11:30am. You should of had a code via email to allow you to join. It will be lovely to have everyone together again in these strange circumstances.

Your first job is to practise reading phase 4 captions, using the slides below.

Your second job today is to read the words below. Then write a sentence and include one of the words you previously read.

Your third job is to look for items that have the 'aw' or 'ew' sound.

Your final job is to look for 'aw' and 'ew' words in the word searches I have attached below.

Maths.

Today, we are going to be completing part, part whole models and subtraction sentences for a range of objects. I have added a video below where I explain how to complete this task.

English.

Today, I would like you to choose your favourite part of the Stick Man story. I would like you to tell me what is your favourite part and why. Then you could draw a picture to accompany your writing.

Don't forget to get a high 5 for your sentence you need to remember 5 things;

1 Start with a capital letter

2 Sounds your words words using your phonic sounds.

3 Use finger spaces

4 End your sentence with a full stop

5 Read your sentence back to check it makes sense.

Art.

Last week we began to think about the changes that happen to trees. Today, in Art we are going to be developing our skills of drawing with other materials. Read through the slides below, then complete the second and third task.
