Good morning Reception! I hope you are all ok and are enjoying completing your activities with your family. Thanks to those of you who have sent photographs of your home learning on Tapestry. Keep up the good work! smiley

Here are your activities for today:

Maths-one more and one less

This week we have been using a number line to find one more and one less than a given number. As a quick recap, can you show your grown up 1 more than a number, using your number line and object? Now can you show 1 less? If you have any chalk at home perhaps you could make your own large number line outdoors and practise jumping on one more or one less than a given number.

Mrs Varty has a challenge for you today. There are 6 frogs on a log. One jumps into the pond. How many frogs are left? Show the answer using your number line. You can send me a photograph of your answer on our Tapestry app.

Phonics

Using your tricky word mat, please can you practice your red tricky words

I the to no go

Today we are learning a new sound- W! Can you bounce the sound? W, W Worm! Now write the letter....down, up, down and up! Can you find anything in your house beginning with the sound 'W'? As a challenge you could have a go at writing these two words... Don't forget to use your freddy fingers to help you!

Topic -We're going on a winter walk!

This week we have started our winter topic. Yesterday in school we went for a wintery walk in our outdoor area, looking for signs of winter. Today could you go on a winter walk and take photographs of any signs of winter that you spot? Perhaps you might find ice on the ground. Do the trees have any leaves at the moment? What will you need to wear before you go outside? If you can't go out too far, perhaps you could look for signs of winter in your garden?

Have a lovely day and don't forget to contact me via email if you need any help.

Good morning Reception! Miss Wilson and I hope you are well on this wintery Wednesday!

In class yesterday we practised writing our names, using our name cards. Some of us even had a go at writing our surnames! Today can you show your mums and dads how to write your name, using a capital letter at the start and lower case letters? We have added a photograph of your name card onto Tapestry to help you. Don't forget to hold your pencil or pen with 'snappy crocodile' fingers! Before you write your name you may like to join in with the 'snappy crocodile' song to help you!

Maths-One more, One less

* Today in maths you will need:

Your number line and lego piece

a pillow case

some objects

a piece of paper and pen (optional)

Place some objects (up to 5 or up to 10) into the pillow case counting as you add them in. Once you have a number of objects in your pillow case, remember how many you put in.

Grown ups, can you support your child by asking questions-eg

"You have placed 5 toys in your pillow case, if you added 1 more/had one less, how many would you have?"

Boys and girls, show your answer using your number line and lego character first, then count the objects out of the pillow case to see if you are correct. As an extra challenge, you may like to write the answer on a piece of paper before counting.

Phonics

Today our new sound is 'V'....bounce the sound....v..v  Vulture! Can you use your magic finger to write the letter in the air, on the floor, as tiny as a mouse, as big as an elephant? Use the Read Write inc Rhyme to help you with the formation.

Next, watch the Monster Treasure Hunt video below. Can you name the objects that she found, with the same sound? smiley

Have a go at writing these words, using your freddy fingers to help you to sound them out and the Read write inc letter formation:

Topic

We are beginning our new 'Winter' topic today. What do you know about winter already? Please watch Something Special-Winter with your family (link below). Can you remember any facts? Perhaps you could practice some of Justin's Makaton signs and make a video to share what you have learnt.

Phonics

Our new sound today is j! Bounce the sound! Can you think of any words beginning with that sound?

Use the Read, Write Inc formation to practise writing the letter the correct way round.

*Use your freddy fingers-can you sound out j/a/m, j/e/t using 3 fingers. Now can you write the words?

*As a challenge, you may like write a sentence including your word-e.g Jam in the pot. Don't forget your capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

Maths

This week we will be recapping 1 more and 1 less.

Using a Number Line

Grown ups, can you make a number line on paper from 1-10. Use a small toy such as a lego character. Place him on a number of your choice, move your character one space forward, to the right to show one more and one space back, to the left to show one less.

e.g If your character is on number 5, to find one more, you will move it to number 6 and to find one less, you will move it to number 4.
