Homework 2021-2022

Welcome to our homework section.

This is where homework will be set each week. We set Maths homework every Friday and we expect this to completed by the following Thursday.

You can write a message in the diary or come and speak to me if you have any questions or queries.

Friday 10th September 2021.

Your child has come home with two reading books and these will be changed each week. Please aim to hear your child read at home three times a week. Just a few pages each time is sufficient. If your child is struggling to read independently take it in turns to read a page each.

Friday 17th September 2021.

We have been practising writing the tricky words from phase 2 in phonics. 

Please keep practising these at home.

 

 

Friday 24th September 2021.

Below are a range of questions that you could use when listening to your children read,  they will develop their comprehension skills, alongside their decoding and fluency to read texts.

Friday 1st October 2021.

Your child is bringing home a small wallet with orange sound cards and six red word cards. The sound cards are sounds your child needs to practise and we will remove these once they can recognise each one. The red words are words that need to be read by sight and will be reassessed each week and new ones will be added when the current ones can be read on three separate occasions.

Ordinal Numbers

This week in maths we have been looking at ordinal numbers, this is a fun video that looks at ordinal numbers alongside doing some exercise!

Friday 15th October 2021.

Maths 

Your child has come home with a log in code for the maths websites called 'Numbots' and 'Times Table Rockstars'.

I would like you to log on to the website using the link below by clicking on the picture. Then create a character and then work your way through the levels of story mode section. 

    

Friday 22nd October 2021.

This week, in phonics we have come to the end of phase 3. The children should be able to read the follow tricky words and if they are able to read them, you could practise spelling them.

Friday 5th November 2021.

Greater than and less than.

In Maths, we have been learning about greater than and less than and using the < and > symbols. The video below recaps this concept.

Friday 12th November 2021.

We started Phase 4 phonics this week. Below are the tricky words that we have introduced. Go through the slides below and see which of the words your child already knows and then practise the others, keep going!

In Geography, we have looked at locating the United Kingdom on World and European maps. See if you can find the United Kingdom on the map below and then watch the video below, which shows which countries make up the United kingdom.

Friday 26th November 2021.

We are starting our new topic on toys. Talk to your parents and grandparents about the toys they played with as a child and discuss if they are still popular today.

Friday 3rd December 2021.

Today, I have sent home a list of some spellings that would be useful for your child to practise. Read through the list with your child, then over the next few weeks practise these. I will give the next set when it is appropriate to your child stage of writing.

Friday 14th January 2022.

In Phonics, we have began learning the sounds from Phase 5. As we are now on a new phase of phonics we also introduced the children to a new set of tricky words that they need to learn to read. Use the slides below to practise reading these words.

Below are a set of words we have been practising spelling. They start off easy but get progressively harder. See which words your child still needs to master. 

Friday 4th February 2022.

We have learnt many phase 5 sounds now, see if you can say each sound below on the slides. 

Friday 11th February 2022.

In English, this week we have been looking at the term 'Noun' and the children have been going on a hunt and writing lists. take a look at the slides below and see if you can spot the noun in each sentence.

Friday 18th February 2022.

In English this week we have been looking at the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. We have been learning to retell the story using 'Talk 4 Writing' actions. Your child should of come home with a copy of the words earlier in the week, I have also attached a copy of the words below.

Friday 4th March 2022.

Your child should of come home with a packet containing cards, these are words and sounds for them to practise. The green cards are sounds they need to go over and the yellow cards are words we look at in Year 1. We will be going over these in school and will take them out of their wallets when they know them on three separate occasions.

Friday 11th March 2022.

Below is a list of words we hope children can read and write by the end of Year 1. I have attached a copy underneath if you are able to print. Start with reading and see which words your child needs to practise.

Friday 18th March 2022.

We are wanting to share books from home. If your child would like to bring a book into school from home we would love to read it all together. 

Friday 25th March 2022.

This week, in English we have been looking at the story Rapunzel. Look through the slides and talk about what happens in the beginning, the middle and the end. Who are the characters you meet? What is the setting of the story.

Friday 1st April 2022.

Your child has come home from school with a library book, this is a book for you to read to your child and enjoy together. They will have the opportunity to change this book each week.
