We had a refresher of long division yesterday - we're going to use that to help us solve some problems.  Remember you can go back and watch the refresher Power Point!

We're going to use this image to inspire our writing.  Imagine this tiny dragon is yours.  Write a paragraph about this tiny dragon.  Think about these ideas to help your description :

Where is it from?  Why is it so small?  How will you look after it?  Are there more like him? Where does he live?  Will you keep it a secret?  What is it called?  What magic can it do?

Here's the beginning of my dragon paragraph....

" This is my miniature dragon, Magnus.  He has been with me for 3 years and he hasn't got any bigger!  I found him underneath some large mushrooms in the woods behind my house.  At first, I thought he was some sort of woodland creature but then I saw him flex his wings and I knew straight away he was a dragon.  The smallest dragon I had ever seen.  The only dragon I had ever seen! All my life, I thought dragons were made up. "

We're going to write some sentences about what we like and what we don't like (IN FRENCH!)  Here's an example:

J'aime le gateau parce que il est delicieux! : I like cake because it is delicious.


Je n'aime pas les sucettes parce que elles sont trop sucre : I don't like lollies because they are too sugary.


There are some new words :

because : parce que

they ARE : ils sont (m) / elles sont (f)

trop : too ( too sugary, too soft etc)

Le Francais : Qu'est-ce que tu aimes manger?


How many people do you think live in Newcastle?

Do you think there are more people living in Newcastle now compared to ten years ago?  Why/Why not?

Use the internet to find out what the population in Newcastle is.  Then find out what it was in : 1970, 1980, 1990, 2000 and 2010.

How could you present your results that isn't just a list?  Decide on a way to present your results.  How many different ways could you present your information?

Write a short paragraph explaining what you have found out and why you think there are differences in the populations over different years.

Following on from our Science last week, I would like you to think about the life cycle of a butterfly which involves the process of 'Metamorphosis'.  I would like you to watch the video below and then complete a detailed drawing of the life cycle including a title, labels and any other information about each stage of the cycle.

Today is the day for the times table grid.  No need to use a ruler - just find a piece of paper and draw out a grid, 13 squares by 13 squares.  Time yourself.  You could even challenge an adult in your house to see who can do it quicker!

Watch "Alma" again.  Imagine you are one of the dolls already in the shop watching what is happening.  Tell the story from your point of view. Here's an example of how you could start it..

" The blonde haired girl came to the window again today but this time she stayed for much longer.  All the other times, she came with her family and there were usually more people on the streets. This time, she came on her own which I thought was strange.  No one was on the streets which I thought was strange too.   I noticed her darting between the windows as she spotted 'her doll' appear and disappear (as they usually do). Trying to warn her was pointless.  All I could do was blink my eyes as quickly as possible but I knew she was never going to see me."

Here's another chance to be creative with your doodles.  Why not try a few of the ideas?
