WEEK 7-WEEK BEGINNING 22/02/2021

Monday 22nd February 2021.

Phonics.

Today in Phonics, we are going to be looking at the new grapheme 'ue'.  The phrase we say for 'ue' is "come to the rescue".

                                                                                

  

   

  

First, you need to practise reading the tricky words from phase 5, click on the picture below to play 'tricky word trucks' on Phonics play.

 

Next, watch my video of me introducing the sound 'ue' and modelling segmenting and blending 'ue' words. Then, practise reading 'ue' words from the list below. Finally, choose a 'ue' word and draw a picture of for word, then label it.

Handwriting.

Today, we are going to practise writing the letters 'e' and 'r' together. The phrase we say is "a better letter".

Watch the video below to see how to form the letters correctly, then practise writing your letters in the air and say the phrase. Then, have a go and write your letters on lined paper.

Maths.

Today in Maths, we are going to be finding the difference between two sets of objects. Watch the video below where I model how to do this. Then have a go at finding the answers to the problems on the sheets below.

English.

Our new topic is houses and homes. Look at all the different houses and homes you could live in. Can you name them all? Can you write them in a list?

Challenge.

Do you know your address? Could you tell someone if there was emergency? see if you can learn your address off by heart.

Tuesday 23rd February 2021.

Phonics.

Today, I would like you to revisit the sound 'ue' that I introduced yesterday.  We say "ue" when we see the two letters u and e together. The phrase we say for this grapheme is "Come to the rescue."

                                                 

   

 

You have four phonics tasks today:

1: Practise spelling 5-10 red words from the list below.

2: Read through the 'ue' words on the purple slides below. Talk with your grown up and make sure you know the meaning of each word.

3: For each word on the slides below, verbally tell your grown up a sentence containing each word.

4: Select a word which contains the 'ue' sound and write a sentence containing this word.

 

Maths.

This week, we are going to be looking at 2D and 3D shapes. Do you know the names of any 3D shapes. Talk through the slides below and see if you can name each shape.

I have added two labelling tasks below. (if you are able to print) Alternatively I have added an image below to talk through, see if you can point to a given shape when an adult says the name. Then see if you name each shape in turn.

English.

Today In English we are going to be looking at the houses and home page from yesterday. I would like you to have a look at the picture and choose the home you would like to live in.

 

Complete the sheet below, writing a sentence in response to each question.

Geography.

We live in England, which is one of the countries that make up The United Kingdom. The United Kingdom is in the continent of Europe. Europe is one of the Seven Continents in the world. 

First, see if you can locate The United Kingdom on the world map below. Next, can you then locate The United Kingdom on the map of Europe.

 

Then using the world and European map (attached below) colour The United Kingdom a bright colour, the rest of the land green and the sea blue.

Challenge.

Do you know what day of the week it is today? What day was it yesterday? What day will it be tomorrow?  

Can you spelling each day correctly?

Wednesday 24th February 2021.

Phonics.

Today in Phonics, we are going to be looking at the new grapheme 'ph'. The phrase we say for 'ph' is "Christopher the elephant"

 

 

     

First, you need to revisit spelling the tricky words from phase 3.

 

 

 

Next, watch the video of me introducing the sound 'ph'. Then, in the next video I'm modelling segmenting and blending 'ph' words. After that, Practise reading 'ph' words from the list below. Finally, have a go at looking for 'ph' words using the phoneme spotter I have attached below.

Maths.

Today, we are going to continue to looking at 3D shapes. Look at the model below and count the amount of each shape used.

 

Next, Go on a shape hunt around your house, garden or local area and look for objects that are 3D shapes. The slides below might give you some ideas! I have attached a chart below to record your observations or you could make your own. 

English.

Do you know what type of home you live in? Look through the slides below and see if you can recognise a home that is like yours.

Next, complete the sheet attached to describe your house.

Can you build a house/home out of construction materials or junk modelling?

          

 

Thursday 25th February 2021.

Phonics.

Today, I would like you to revisit the sound 'ph' that I introduced yesterday.  We say "ph" when we see the two letters p and h together. The phrase we say for this grapheme is "Christopher the elephant."

Today, I have a reading job for you, linked to our houses and homes topic. With your grown ups read through the poem below. Then, talk through the questions below.

Today, I would like you to look back at the house and home slides from yesterday's English lesson. You then need to look at the picture below, then see if you can label the different homes. I have attached the sheet below which you can print. You could draw the six different homes on paper and then label your drawings.

Friday 26th February 2021.

Zoom. 

Today we are having the usual class zoom session at 11:30am. You should had a code via email, to allow you to join. It will be lovely to have everyone together again in these strange circumstances.

Phonics.

Today, in phonics we are going to consolidate our learning from this week. This week you have been introduced to two new graphemes 'ue' and 'ph'.

Your first job is to practise reading your red words using the slides below.

Your second job today is draw a picture of a object that has the 'ph' sound. Then write the correct word beneath your picture.

 

Your third job is write a sentence that contains a word with the 'ue sound. 

Your final job is to look for 'ue' and 'ph' words in the word searches I have attached below.

Ideas to support your children with thier reading.

Maths.

Today we are going to looking at the properties of 3D shapes. We are going to be working out how many face, edges and vertices each shape has. Watch my video below, then complete the attached sheet underneath.

I have also attached some colouring sheets, to consolidate your knowledge on the properties of each shape.

Geography.

Today I would like you to go on a walk around your local area and look for different buildings. I have attached the sheet underneath or you make your own.

 

Challenge.

Today, I want you to see if you can recognise all the numbers to 100. Use the 100 square below and see how many you can name.
